January 19, 2007, Newsletter Issue #166: Knee Joints

Tip of the Week

Making a joint where there isnīt one can be easy. If you cut the greenware about 1 inch on either side of a joint, such as elbow or knee, fire to bisque and paint as usual. When ready to put together, use the armature of choice and size appropriate for the size of your doll. Using armature or pipe cleaner (for smaller doll), glue or plaster ends to the upper and lower side of the limb, joining it back as one piece. Leave enough space between the pieces to allow them to bend. Glue cloth around the opening, or leave open. Once the doll is dressed, the joint will not be visable.
